FossilCrete™ Training Course Transforms Orange County Zoo Into A Concrete Natural Habitat
Orange, California, November 8, 2006: Fossilcrete, the industry leader in vertical concrete stamping systems, joined with Frank Lewis’ Decorative Concrete Series, to provide a three day training course that redesigned parts of the Orange County Zoo. Using FossilCrete’s vertical stamping material, an ordinary utility pole was turned into a natural looking oak tree and a mountain lion exhibit was transformed from a cedar shingle wall to a natural-looking desert rock wall.
This special three day training session provided hands-on instruction for replicating natural items such as rocks, boulders, and trees, using FossilCrete’s Vertical Stamping Material. With input from the Orange County Zoo and its director, Forest DeSpaine, designs were sketched that helped emulate the natural landscape throughout the zoo. Randy Kelsey, Regional Sales Manager for Xcel Surfaces said “the Orange County Zoo provided a perfect opportunity for students to learn proper application skills, while leaving behind a lasting donation to the zoo.” The FossilCrete training course utilized framing and stamping techniques that provide structure and texture with the natural color created using FossilCrete’s Nature’s Palette Coloring System.
FossilCrete, a division of Shasta Industries, recently moved its corporate headquarters to Phoenix, Arizona from Oklahoma. Today, FossilCrete continues to be a full service company offering unparalled training, support, and products in the vertical concrete industry. FossilCrete also carries the largest variety of natural fossil and animal track stamps in the world, along with reusable concrete counter edge, cantilever deck, and step forms.

Welcome FossilCrete to Our Team
On April 14, 2006, FossilCrete officially became the newest division to join the Shasta Industries team, after Xcel Surfaces having started 10 years ago. FossilCrete is the industry leader in vertical concrete stamping systems. Business operations and some manufacturing will move to Phoenix but secondary manufacturing and all new product development will remain in Oklahoma City, where FossilCrete’s former headquarters used to be located. Former owner, Stanton Pace, will now become Director of New Product Development and continue to provide his technical assistance and expertise. “I am so glad to be joined with such an established company and am looking forward to the great things we will do together” says Stan Pace.
Over the years, Shasta Industries has grown through constant innovation, striving to provide outstanding service to its customers. The addition of FossilCrete continues this tradition, as they recently have been honored with the 2006 prestigious Expert’s Choice Most Innovative Products Award in the decorative concrete category, at the World of Concrete Show in Las Vegas. With the addition of FossilCrete, we will expand into niche markets of the decorative concrete industry. We are happy to have them on our team and look forward to watching great things develop from this division!
